Oranges Lowers Cholesterol

A study was done to see the effect of drinking orange juice on lipid profile of overweight middle-aged women. The study consisted of 26 women who did 1 hour of aerobic training 3 times a week for 3 months. Half of the women drank half liter of orange juice everyday while the other half didn’t.
The result was 15 % decrease in serum LDL-C (bad cholesterol) and 18% increase in HDL-C(good cholesterol) in the group which drank orange juice.No significant change in LDL or HDL was observed in the control group. Both group lost weight.(1)
Oranges lowers Blood Pressure
One of the unique polyphenols in oranges is hesperidin. 24 healthy,overweight men were studied for three 4-week period. Volunteers consumed half liter orange juice, half liter control drink with hesperidin, and half liter control drink with placebo. Diastolic blood pressure was significantly reduced after 4 weeks of drinking half liter orange juice or control drink with hesperidin .(2)
